MikroTik RBwAPG-5HacD2HnD (wAP ac)

Dual-band (2.4GHz/5GHz) dual-radio 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless access point with integrated antenna and two gigabit Ethernet ports, one supporting PoE-in, in a weatherproof enclosure. The SoC contains a powerful quad-core ARM CPU with hardware-accelerated encryption support.

The commercial name of the access point is wAP ac. Do not confuse this ipq40xx-based model with the older ath79-based RBwAPG-5HacT2HnD, also marketed as wAP ac.

Install OpenWrt on MikroTik devices

Install OpenWrt (generic instructions)

Installation is as on other MikroTik devices. In summary, permanent installation occurs in two steps:

  1. Boot an initramfs image over TFTP.
  2. Flash the final image using sysupgrade.

The RouterOS 7 bootloader is not compatible with OpenWrt. If a device is running the RouterOS 7 bootloader, downgrade it to RouterOS 6 and flash the bootloader before installing OpenWrt.

After flashing, proceed with basic configuration to set up the Internet connection, configure wireless, etc.

ETH1 and ETH2 also have one green and one amber LED each, but they are configured to remain under switch control to show link/activity (green) and speed (amber), and are not under OpenWrt’s control.

By default, the serial port is disabled during boot. To enable it, “no UART” needs to be disabled in hard_config.
